Meet Alfie, recently crowned as MEM mascot!

Alfie, a charming budgie with a personality as vibrant as his feathers, has become the beloved mascot of the Masters in Engineering Management (MEM) programme. Throughout the first-year Introduction to Engineering Management module webinars presented by Alfie’s owner and MEM lecturer, Prof Calie Pistorius, Alfie stole the spotlight and ensured moments of joy and laughter. His unexpected appearances when the mood takes him have added a delightful twist to serious academic discussions, and it’s no surprise that students eagerly anticipate his presence.

In fact, Alfie’s adorable antics have captured the hearts of students and even garnered attention beyond the virtual classroom. A video clip featuring Alfie’s endearing contributions went viral among MEM students, sparking smiles and spreading cheer.

It’s clear that Alfie has become an integral part of Prof Calie Pistorius’ webinar sessions and Alfie’s presence has not only brought levity to these sessions but has also fostered a sense of camaraderie among students. In recognition of his impact, MEM students affectionately dubbed him the official mascot, expressing their fondness under the hashtag #MEMMascot.

Looking ahead, we’re excited to see how Alfie continues to brighten days and bring his unique charm to future webinars while working on his academic vocabulary one webinar at a time!
